Day 1: Baires, Argentina

Before heading down to Antarctica, we spent a day exploring Argentina’s capital, where January summer was in full swing.

Days 2-4: Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, and the Drake

Getting to Antarctica is a process. From Buenos Aires, we took a charter flight to Ushuaia, the southernmost tip of South America. Before our ship departed, we had a day to explore the area, including the famous Tierra del Fuego National Park. Casting off in the late afternoon of Day 2, the next two and a half days were spent getting our sea legs while crossing the Drake.

We survived the Drake, we crossed the Antarctic Circle, now it’s time to take The Plunge.

Day 5 - Polar Plunge

Day 6 - Yalour, Pleneau, Lemaire

If you’re not ready for an aggressive amount of ice and penguin pictures, don’t open this gallery.

Day 7 - Useful Island, Neko Harbor

Lots more penguins, because you can never have enough of the little buggers. Plus glaciers, sea birds, and a magnificent harbor

Day 8 - Enterprise Island, Portal Point

Some history, some shipwrecks, and a story of whaling

Day 9 - Curtiss Island, Spert Island

Moody ice under moody skies, then - the zodiac ride of a lifetime

Day 10 - Patagonia Bay

I finally go kayaking, Flo spots some sassy seals, and we feast our eyes on more ice.
